This 50 Schilling silver coin was issued in 1970 to honor the University of Innsbruck, a prestigious institution founded in 1669 and deeply rooted in Austria’s intellectual and cultural history. The reverse features a regal allegorical figure holding symbols of knowledge and authority, surrounded by heraldic shields representing various faculties and regional ties. The inscription “UNIVERSITÄT INNSBRUCK 1970” marks the occasion, celebrating centuries of scholarship in the heart of Tyrol.
 
The obverse displays Austria’s ten regional coats of arms encircling the denomination “50 SCHILLING,” framed by “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH”—a classic emblem of national unity.
