Afxentiou, a leading commander of the movement, became a symbol of courage and sacrifice after his legendary last stand in 1957 near the Machairas Monastery, where he chose resistance over surrender. This commemorative silver issue honors the legacy of EOKA and preserves the memory of those who fought for the liberation of Cyprus.
